It has been shocking to see the scenes and hear the news coming out of Beirut since yesterday. It is estimated that over 100 people have been killed, and over 4,000 injured so far. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, and some 250,000 people have been displaced in an instant.
We know from our experience in Lebanon that the population is suffering from economic collapse and widespread poverty, and that the infrastructure is already struggling to cope with the influx of COVID-19 patients since it began spreading in March this year.
A significant number of hospitals have been damaged by the explosion, and others have been so overwhelmed that they are asking patients with non-fatal illnesses to stay at home. As hospitals are in short supply, work is already underway to set up temporary morgues.
The people of Beirut are in desperate need of aid and shelter to help them get through this latest disaster. If you would like to help, you can donate through the emergency fund here.
Note: When choosing a monthly donation, the amount you specify is automatically withdrawn on the same day of each month.
Disclaimer: We would like to point out that Dar Al Attaa is fully committed to delivering aid to the country or project you choose at the time of donation.
